Loos 2 Learners is a program that raises funds for school sanitation. Last year, we raised enough to renovate the ablution blocks for the learners and staff at Isibongo Primary School in Mpophomeni, KZN, South Africa.
It was such a privilege to meet the principal, teachers and pupils who are working hard to grow through the many challenges they face. We are so grateful to all those who supported the Loos 2 Learners campaign through Thundafund, to Ayanda Lushozi and his team at AYOS Projects who diligently completed the work, and to the UMngeni Local Municipality who cleared the blocked sewer to enable to project to go forward. And of course the Water Research Commission who has been with us all the way.
Loos 2 Learners was able to:
Replace broken 9 litre flush toilets with Arumloo Low Flush toilets.
Provide elevated water storage to enable a reliable gravity water supply for toilet flushing and handwashing.
Fix basins and install soap dispensers for improved hygiene
Install secure toilet roll dispensers and repair doors for improved dignity.
Paint inside the ablution buildings to bring more natural light into the building.
We hope this is the first of many such projects and that dignified sanitation will become the norm instead of the exception at schools like Isibongo.
